Triple Brew Weekend

Post by ECR » Sat Jun 28, 2008 7:08 pm

Having not brewed for months, and therefore having virtually nothing left worth drinking, I am doing three brews this weekend, as follows:

1. Horden Hillbilly's Pilsner - the previous one was a real hit with everyone who tried it;
2. "House" Bitter (based on Bob Pritchard's "All-Grain Best Bitter" Recipe :shock: ) which is my standard brew; and
3. Guinness clone - the Dave Line 7:1:1 recipe.

I meant to get started early this morning, but we were out late last night so didn't really get going until midday.

At the moment the Pilsner is coming to the end of the boil, but the element on the Bruheat boiler keeps cutting out, so it is about to get a good clean! I also had problems with a stuck mash, so had to ditch the Listermann false bottom and bring my trusty sparging bag out of retirement.

The bitter is halfway through the mash. Will get these two finished tonight and then up early tomorrow for the "Guinness"!

Full details and pictures will follow :D

3 brews in one weekend!! :shock:

You certainly are going to be busy this weekend ECR! :lol:

Good luck with your brews & I hope that the pilsner is to your taste, I have a few bottles in the fridge now for Mrs H to enjoy later this evening.

The bitter has just started boiling. I cleaned the element - couldn't believe how much baked-on stuff there was underneath - and it's working properly again.

Another little trick that I learned on Jim's 8)

...and I was so pleased about that I forgot to put the hop strainer in :evil:
