SNPA like 09-07-08

trying to get the beer stores back up again, so have this boiling away at the moment.

SNPA sort of

5 Kg MO
250 g of crystal
65-66C mash 75 mins

20 g magnum 13 % 60 min
10 g magnum 13 % 30 min
28 g of cascade 7 % 1 min

Not getting too carried away with the late hop additions (want to avoid that grassyness).

Looks like a nice brew, hope it goes well

I'm beginning to wish I'd put more late hops in mine as I quite like the grassy flavours

Nope just a snifter of pH 5.4, i've had a run of batches that haven't been that great and it happened to conicide with me also making water treatments. I don't for one second think that the water treatments were the cause but i went back to the pre-dodgy batch setup just to make sure i can make good beer, once im satisfied i'll start water treatments again.

Looks nice del.

The pub local to where I work has SNPA on draught (albeit at £4+ a pint ) and its very nice stuff. Must get round to having a go at one myself sometime.

Initial tastings are good, its a bit more subtle than previous outings but TBH that was part of the plan since this was meant to be a 'SNPA like' beer rather than an out and out clone.
The hop schedule wasn't as aggressive and had no perle addition so it doesn't have that subtle piney/medicinal taste in it but what it does have is a lovely uncluttered clean bitterness (magnums) and a super cascade flavour and nose.
