Post by MightyMouth » Sat Jul 12, 2008 8:00 pm

Well tomorrow is my 6th brew and I am doing one of my own devising. Basically a Strong bitter I am calling All that Glitters is Goldings as it uses all EKG hops. Here's the recipes.

5.25 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter 88.53 %
0.50 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt 8.43 %
0.18 kg Wheat, Torrified 3.04 %
60.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] (60 min)
25.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] (20 min)
15.00 gm East Kent Goldings [4.50 %] at flame off
S-04 yeast

MMMMhh.... EKG Is becoming my favourite hop. I would have increased the post boil addition to 30g because I think the aroma and freshness is one of the strengths of EKG, but then again sometimes I think my brews are a bit top heavy with hop aroma.....but then again.....Let us know how it turns out.

I was thinking of dry hopping with another 15g in the secondary.

Now yer talking...

I must admit I am a relative newcomer to dry hopping...but on the one occasion I have tried it, it has worked well.

Good Luck

Hey MM,

Admittedly it's only been a few weeks since you brewed - but I reckon you've had a taste or two already ;) - Any pointers on how this turned out? I have a pack of EKGs in the freezer waiting to be used.

It's only been in the bottle for a week but it's very nice, not too hoppy but enough that you can taste it with a nice maltiness. It is still a little cloudy so I am hoping that clears from a week in the cold but even if it doesn't it tastes great.
