Getting obsessive now Raspberry wheat beer AG(almost)

Post by pantsmachine » Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:40 pm

I was out for a drive today with my wife and kids in the countryside and we spotted a load of Raspberry bushes with fruit on at the side of the road. Sadly(for wife and kids) i immediately flashed to the wheat malt i had in my malt storage area(Blue cooler box TBH) & the tin of unhopped Marris otter extract i had on stand by. We stopped, we picked and filled up the frisbees(don't ask) with the kids on a cash promise for amounts picked.TBH nothing sad about it at all we all had a great time and came home with red hands and mouths, a proper family day out!

Ran the lot through my new and only slightly tested brewery set up. 5 gallon cooling now and awaiting yeast pitch. I'll post tomorrow with pictures(properly this time). We are still working on a name for the batch. This hobby is really getting obsessive now but what else can you do when you know you can make better beer than the big boys and also beat most of the microbrewery stuff as well. I've got try some competitions to see if its selfdelusion or not!

Whatever, I think it's something to do with how high the urine spray from foxes/dogs can reach

My 1st tottering footsteps into the realm of a tiered system get an almost real trial.Grain bill is not high enough for me to consider this the real thing yet!

Woohoo, in use! 1 hour mash then sparge as learnt on this here site.

Post boil and ready to transfer

General view of how far the homebrew tentacles have spread into CasaDeInglis in what feels like a very short space of time.

Hopefully this will be a good one to finish of the Summer with when i get back onshore next month. Cheers & P.S i boiled the rasps for 1/2 hour and then transfered pips and all to FV and the fitted waterlock until wort was ready. Once fermentation is complete this batch will sit in FV for a full month before being transfered to a keg and FC'd.

Thanks Daab, right enough. The builders bucket was caught up the madness of 'how can i move towards a 3 tier system with what's at hand'. I doubt more than three heat ups to 72 degrees will take place in bucket before being changed out for something else. On a seperate note i read Gurgeh's thread on twin IC liked the idea and borrowed it it this morning

Cheers Daab. It will be tested on a 25ltr batch of guiness type stout i am making this afternoon. 100 pints in a week brewed is enough for me!

IC is working right now and i am amazed at the job its doing 70 degrees within 5 mins down from boil, timing now(19.47hrs).
19.52 hours 47 degrees.
20.03hrs 35 degrees this is a fantastic bit of kit!

Off to check me yeast starter.

1st real AG done and on waterlock 12lb grain what a bass to do. Will post in the morning. Off to the pub!

Thanks ECR. Weird one this, hell of a lot of crap in the bottom of the fv so a fair bit of non-useable beer, to be expected i suppose as i had 3lbs of rasps in the FV. In the end i got 21 1/2 ltr bottles and a single 1 gallon demijohn which is finishing clearing before transfer to sealed unit for chilling and forced carbonation in the fridge. Anyway, to quote Still Game (if you don't get this in England keep a look out for it, its hilarious). 'Enough of my pish' bring on the beer porn!

Had a taste during transfer to bottles etc and its brilliant took me right back to a Belgian raspberry beer i used to drink in the early Nineties in Aberdeen(Filthy McNastys was the bar).

We do get "Still Game". I love it. The characters are what makes it for me, from Naveed the Scottish Indian to Tam the most tight-fisted man ever!

Had 2 episodes on BBC2 at 10pm recently and then this Thursday nothing. :? :?
Hope your Raspberry Special matures well. Very professional looking labels.

Cheers Stone,i have no doubt it will be a cracker. Just registered brew name on company house. Going to scale up get 'real gear' and have a crack at a microbrewery over the next 10 months. Plan to try out with the big boys with a 3 string beer line at comps next year, we'll see..... Naveed shoulder dancing in the shop, cuts me up every time i see it. One of my mates saw Naveed and his brother doing stand up at the comedy club in Glasgow a couple of years back. Practically wet himself, so that's a good thing.......?

Ive seen Still Game and its funny. The last one i saw, they were all taking the piss out of the tight git, but he was quietly paying for his pints with Euros cos the barman had never seen one and thought they were english £££s. Sweet Scots revenge!
Were a lot of the cast in Absolutely in the early 90's? I remember that lot along with Gregor Fisher aka Rab and his wifey.

Navids character is played by Sanjeev Singh Kohli, and hes in a comedy on Radio 4 atm called Fags, Mags and Bags. Its the same Indian shopkeeper character, but he gets top billing and its pretty funny, maybe get it on listen again or podcast.
