The only alteration being I used Brewferm dried wit yeast.
Sorry no photo's this time, I thought i'd better concentrate on one job at a time. I made notes as I went along so hopefully the next one will be hitch free ( I hope) and I'll have time to take some pics. Having said that it was remarkebly easy. The key I think was research, obviously here on this forum helped but Horden Hillbilly's site was invaluable, cheers Dave

There's a hell of a lot of homebrew "how to's" on the web and a lot of it way too in depth and off putting. My advice to anyone contemplating AG for the first time is avoid the scientific stuff and crack on and follow a simple set of instructions. The chemistry can come later.
More random/beer induced ramblings;
Glad I made notes, it will help next time.
I lost a lot of temp between strike and mash temp. need to improve on that.
Don't worry about sparging, taking gravity readings and sparging is a slow process plenty of time, you'll know when to stop.
The smell was wonderful, more beery than kit/extract brews so that must be a good sign. I used to live in Masham so I know what it's supposed to smell like

After 90 mins of mashing the taste of sweet wort was quite magical and when the iodine didn't change colour well......

I had some strange notion it wouldn't work. Probably my biggest hurdle.
All in all a great and productive way to spend a day. I'm hooked. What to brew next?
Roger.
