AG Birthday Brew #1

Decided that my first AG brew was long overdue and what better day to do it than my birthday when I'm on holiday.

One of my m8's came over to give me a hand so here follows the birthday brew.

Scottish 80-/ seemed apt as thats probably the first drink I got started on and will always drink when given the chance.
amounts for a 19l brew (perfect cornie size for a starter)

3.00 kg. Maris Otter Pale
0.30 kg. British Crystal
0.03 kg. English Chocolate Malt
0.15 kg. Barley Flaked
0.30 kg. Corn Flaked
25 g. Goldings boiled 90 min
16 g. Styrian Goldings boiled 15 min
Yeast : WYeast 1728 Scottish Ale

mash water 9.5l
batch sparge #1 6.7l
batch sparge #2 11l

the boil pictures got kinda sidelined between drinking the last kit brew and sitting in the hot-tub!

the finished product

had a bit of a nightmare with my grain bed filter, it all bunged up..
however sorted that, was expecting 22l for the boil, got around 21,
after boil was looking for 19l got around 18.5l
was looking for 1052 got around 1050
not bad for a first brew me thinks.
starting to ferment away now.
will let you know the taste test latr.

Well done on your 1st ag brew. Don't worry about the few small problems that you had, you can sort these out on your future brews. I'm sure that you will be delighted with your brew, enjoy it. 8)

That's a very good result for a first attempt, I'm sure it'll be a fine brew. Be warned though, once tasted you'll be itching to get brewing again. :)

Well done, welcome to the club!!
Now your hooked you should buy your grain and hops in bulk, works out loads cheaper.

thanks for all the support,
it's fermenting like a trooper and smells divine,
cant wait to pop the cap off the first bottle.
