Brewing on Saturday and have decided to do a quick turnaround bitter based on the one suggested by Mcleanb in the recipes section. We are having party at the end of the month, so the idea is to stick it in the corni next Saturday, so it will be ready to drink the following Saturday...
QT Bitter
Ingredient Colour Weight Ratio
Pale Malt 5 EBC 6310 grams 86%
Crystal Malt 130 EBC 880 grams 12%
Chocolate Malt 1050 EBC 73 grams 1%
Roasted Barley 1350 EBC 73 grams 1%
Hop Variety Type Alpha Time Weight Ratio
Boadicea Whole 5.6 % 90 mins 40 grams 50%
Boadicea Whole 5.6 % 15 mins 40 grams 50%
Final Volume: 38 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.040
Final Gravity: 1.010
Alcohol Content: 3.8% ABV
Total Liquor: 54 Litres
Mash Liquor: 14.7 Litres
Bitterness: 24 EBU
Colour: 59 EBC
Now, my H&G mash tun isnt going to cope with a standard batch sparge of 2 rinses, so I'm planning the following.
1) 90min Mash using a ratio of 2.5 liquor to grains.
2) On completion of mash, fill MT to top, stir, leave for 10 mins, recirc and drain
3) Do 2 further rinses with equal volume in each, to achieve a pre-boil volume of 48ltrs
Might even try to get some photos
AG #2 Q.T. Bitter
Re: AG #2 Q.T. Bitter
It looks an "interesting" recipe but I'm not sure where your getting the ABV from
. With that amount of grain you should end up somewhere nearer 4.3%, assuming your using a standard s04 yeast. And the IBU's look a little low for a bitter.
Could all be just me as i'm knackered
