The gubbins had to sub some of the grain as i did not have what was required and changed another so I think I am ok to post the recepie.

4.70 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 87.85 %
0.50 kg Wheat, Torrified (3.3 EBC) Grain 9.35 %
0.15 kg Chocolate Malt (886.5 EBC) Grain 2.80 %
50.00 gm Challenger [7.50 %] (90 min) Hops 38.7 IBU
20.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [4.30 %] (15 min) Hops 4.1 IBU
1.00 items Campden Tablet (Mash 5.0 min) Misc
1.00 gm Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) (Mash 60.0 min) Misc
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
1 Pkgs Nottingham (Danstar #-) Yeast-Ale

Day started well after a few mods to the brewery yesterday, Lowered the pump and made an extension from boiler tap to the pump. also going to pump the wort from the boiler to the chiller.

Boiler and gas ring work really well getting the water up to temp.

Pumped out of boiler through a seive to catch the last stray bits of trub  bit foamy

Image

Got way to much wort I think I oversparged as well. FV has 27 litres in it I also filled a demijohn. dumped 2 litres out of the FV as im using nottingham yeast for this one.

Image

Post boil Gravity 1040 pretty much what I was aiming for.

Image

2 brews in and this is the state of a 13KG gas cylinder got enough for a third brew by the looks.

Nice pics Damfoose. Coincidentally, I also made GW's Cocker Hoop today, so I'd be interested to hear how yours turns out. I adjusted the recipe to compensate for my usual (in)efficiency :), and ended up with 24l @ 1.046. I used Bobek instead of Styrian Goldings, and chucked in 15g instead of 8g at 80C. I'm fermenting with S04.

This is one of my favourite beers - had a fair few tours at the Jennings brewery including 3-hour lock ins at the bar! I am making either this tomorrow, or a porter, really cant make up my mind...

After 3 days fermenting im going to have to chuck this as their is an after taste that is unplesent of the tannings which is extreemly pronounced :-& , Not to much of a problem though as I happen to have a day off tomorrow where I can brew it again, I will use the yeast cake from this batch to drop the new brew on. Shame I oversparged but these things happen I know where I went wrong so it is relativley easy to correct dont use as much water

Are you sure it's not worth giving it more time?

Well I over sparged by alot ... 10 litres worth and the tannings really come through I had a taste of the wort after the boil and that had a slight weard taste to it so I dont think it is something that is going to be going any time soon tbh,

I find it difficult understand why over-sparging would produce something that is completely undrinkable. I would take sib67's advice and leave it for a while. If that fails then I would be inclined to look elsewhere for the problem.
