Why thank you Simple One, if your trying to compete with the WKD and Nats Piss Lagers my so called friends drink you have to have something nice and bright to tempt them..

Got them the other day when one of them asked for just a Lager I gave him a Bernard Dark. He looked at me strange and said that's not a Lager. I had to show him the bottle to prove it. When he eventually got his Carling I remonstrated that if anything the Carling was more of a pretender than my dark Czech brew...

Well ChrisG, it was your recipe I found and I'm sure Vossy won't mind me giving you the credit for it. I give him plenty of credit when it come to the brewing equipment as his posts have been a great help to me and I'm sure many others.

As a first recipe for me with my love of dark beers with only one hop addition to worry about it was perfect. The smell is out of this world (One reason for the name ) and I can get the toasted and chocolaty flavours already and I am really looking forward to trying the first bottle in a weeks time to see how it's coming along.

I am currently brewing my Black Cat Mild, Grain in the mashtun as we speak and I'm pushing the boat out on this one and using two kind of hops one for bittering and one for aroma, so progressing a pace already. Is this brewing lark not great fun?

Just about to post my new label for my first AG#1 Brew and thought I would at least put a picture up of the finished product which I decided to call "Barnard 33" after the famous dark nebula.

Shouldn't that be "Bernard 33" after the famous dark lager that those bottles used to contain?
(Personally, I call that astronomical object the "Neddy Nebula" for obvious reasons....)

No definitely Barnard not Bernard, What I have a spelling mistake on my bottles.... Was going to call it Horse Head stout , but thought this was slightly more cryptic

Well spotted ADM.... Yes they are the Bernard bottles, it's the only way I can convince the wife to buy me some of this delicious Czech beer, Honest darling I know it's £2 a bottle but think of all the money I'm saving on not having to buy empty swing top bottles. They are at least £1.50 each so really I'm saving money in the long run and getting a beer for only 50p...

No links to cheaper swing top bottles please, she may read the forums...

Once my brew stash is up and running this may have to change

Good job - sounds great - and great label idea too!

I've found the best way to get the swing tops has been to buy them when I've gone ove the channel to Calais - over there it's actually cheaper to buy them with beer than to buy them empty over here! Go figure... (plus a lot of them are 660/750ml bottles! Hic!)

Well, this is drinking now and I have taken a bottle to the local beer snob and the landlord as well as to the latest meet of "The Cambridge Crew" and have had positive comments all round on this one. Will look to fill a glass and upload a picture if the chocolate nectar can stay in the glass long enough for me to find my camera and take a photo of the damn thing... In technical terms Bloody lovely, may like to try to up the crystal or use a dark crystal on this as I will definitely be brewing this one again
