I always used to use S-04 due to it being a reliable. Then I used Nottingham and Windsor and found the taste difference quite noticeable. I like Nottingham for the clean flavour, although some say its a bit bland, its down to personal preference I suppose.

Thank you :D

I remember I bought it off the internet but I can't for the life of me remember where. I have seen a few people use the same one on here (including Jim, I think). There is no reason why it has to be the same thermometer. You could do the same with any similar one.

I watched this 2 weeks ago and it explained so simply the basic processes involved and made me realise that maybe it isnt as hard as I thought it would.
Thats why I now have a box of malt and hops etc waiting for me to sort out the equipment to get it boiling

Cheers!!!!

chrisbuck10765 wrote:Great videos well done and congratulations - quick question re. your temperature controlled fermenting fridge. Did you use the fridge's electric supply or a separate supply to thermostat/bulb ? Details of how you did this would be great.
Ta , Chris =D>
Its powered by a normal 13 amp plug. The wire simply runs out the back of the fridge from the thermostat to the power socket. I removed the original fridge thermostat and replaced it with the room one you can see in the video. The thermostat is also wired to the fridge so I can drop the temperature if need be. It works surprisingly well. It keeps a constant temperature when running cold or warm.

I'll take some pictures when I am not using it to show you.

Superb vid mate, watched them all twice now, will definatly be going ag now. Helped a noob understand alot, cheers :D

Going to build DaaB's 'False Bottom Mash Tun' - I'm going to do exactly the same recipe as you, if you don't mind.
3.10kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter - £4.96
0.36kg Crystal Malt - £0.85
0.15kg Wheat Malt - £0.29
45.00gm Challenger Hops - £4.99
9.00gm Fuggles Hops - £4.99
1 Whirlfloc Tablet - 0.25p
0.18kg Brewing Sugar - £0.50p
1 pk SafAle English Ale Yeast (s04) - £1.85
So just under £20 for the brew ingredients, awesome!

Just watched this vid. Been looking around for a vid for a while now that's not of someone across the pond with a big shiny rig, and this was just the ticket!

Going to order some kit tonight. Can't wait any longer!

A bottling vid would be great as well as I suspect that's what we'll be doing. Would be interested to hear more about the fridge setup as well.
