London Pride

Post by arturobandini » Sun Oct 25, 2009 1:01 pm

First brew since moving down to North London.

All manner of bad things are anticipated today as I've no idea how everything is going to go in this new environment. Mash went on half an hour ago and is currently sitting doing its thing wrapped up in a duvet.

The recipe is from Wheelers new book but I'm subbing the bittering hops for some high alpha hops as this has worked pretty well for me in the last two I've done. I'm going with S-04 as it's that or Nottingham. I almost went with Fullers ESB this morning but I want to turn this around in 4 weeks to nail on my birthday and ESB would've been pushing that slightly. My plan now is to pitch a batch of ESB onto the yeast from this and do that in over the Christmas period.

Unlikely to be any pictures as my camera seems to have been lost in transit. Nice day for it today, I intend to sink a few and watch the football so I hope the beer doesn't affect my brewing judgement too much.

Good luck to anyone else brewing today.
Planning - Not for a long while

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

It's cooling now and my beloved Man Utd have just been stuffed after being totally outplayed by the Scousers. Let's hope this consolation Bourbon doesn't EFF the last leg of the Brewday up.

23 litres @ 1040 on the nose and the so4 pitched. Not expecting anything like an absolute clone of London Pride given the yeast differences but a beer "in the style of" would be perfect for me.

Going to dry hop this with a few cones of Goldings once the big fermentation is over. Then its going into a Polypin with a small amount of priming sugars. This will be my first try at coupling a beer engine and a polypin but my hopes are high.

...back to sorrow drowning.
