What's that coming out of my beer, is it a monster???

No, it's just crazy fermentation.

I have used neither Safale-04 nor done an AG stout before. I boiled yesterday and pitched some re-hydrated yeast last night at about 2000hrs. Little was happening this morning at 0730hrs except for about 8mm foam head visible through the sides of the FV.

Got home and imagine my surprise when I found....


It was half-way across the floor and making its way to the door. The picture shows after emergency mopping up.
Needless to say I wasn't very impressed...


...that I have wasted nearly a litre of beer. I only left three or four inches in the top of the FV, but this has been fine for all my beers for years. I have only ever skimmed to remove a small amount of junk from the top of two inches of foam.


And yes, that was a white towel on the floor.

I've transferred it to the bath and hosed the outside with cool water for a few minutes to try and slow the thing down.


It's had no effect. I seem to have only made it more angry

In fact, it is now spitting at me. Actually spitting - no joke.

Good job! There's something about stouts that makes it do this - I filled over 30L of fermenter head space with foam from the last Russian Stout I did...brewlength was only 30L or so...!

If I do a stout nowdays I only put 4 gallon in to leave a little more head space after the same thing happened to me, trouble was it was on carpet, the wife went banana's.

I did a do-do two nights ago with my first AG blonde, racked to secondary with a little bottler tap on the same fermenter (twin handled and screw off cap), but the fermenter has an indented front where the tap fits in, and the seals i put on it didnt quite seal, your lucky and it went on boards, 2 or 3 ltrs of half fermented ale on the carpet has a more desired effect, my fermenter was tittering on the toilet rim no joke.

Today, did an IPA second AG brew, but did it in a bucket with no taps nothing, and ive ordered several more of the same now, and a siphon kit for racking off, the new buckets are 30 odd ltr and have grommet holes in the tops for airlocks, im going to run tube into a 500ml conical sat on top, then i have the headroom for at least a few hours of not noticing

It does p155 one off though, all that gone to waste !!

Lastly, I bet your first word or two was the same as mine, the first being Oh .... nuff said !!
