Old Familiar 1st May

Post by Horatio » Sat May 01, 2010 11:16 am

Two days two brews! :D :D :D

This one is a recipe I put together about 10 years ago but haven't brewed it since 2005!

Batch Size (L): 23
Total Grain (kg): 6.599
Total Hops (g): 125
OG: 1.065 - FG: 1.016
ABV: 6.39%
Colour (EBC): 69.1
Bitterness (IBU): 40.5
Efficiency: 75%
Mash Time: 90 mins @ 66c
Boil Time: 90 mins

Grain Bill
Pale Malt (MO): 5.279 kg (80%)
Crystal: 0.495 kg (7.5%)
Choc Malt: 0.330 kg (5%)
Black Malt: 0.198 kg (3%)
Torrified Wheat: 0.297 kg (4.5%)

Hops
Fuggles 80g 90 mins
Progress 20g 15 mins
Progress 25g 80c Steep

Yeast
S-04

I put my old data into Brewmate and came up with the above.

In the mash tun now.

12 hours later...

There was 10 litres of ullage in the FV as well!
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!

I skimmed it an hour ago and it's overflowing again!

You need a bigger bucket!!
How do you mean Ullage? "Stale or infected beer that is unsaleable" I don't think you really mean ullage ;)

Sorry, that's the truck driver in me. In haulage Ullage means the volume by which a liquid container falls short of being full, although in brewing it refers to wasteage. So yes I do mean ullage but maybe not in this context! :D

I also have the body of an 18 year old; if the police ever find it I'm done for!

I really do need a bigger bucket; it came over the top 5 times this morning! Each time I skimmed back to to the wort as well! :o
