ey up MG

No word yet matey as I haven't tried it! It was kegged last week and sent up to Richmond North Yorks to the folks house. It was brewed for over Christmas (along with a blonde) as we (my brothers, and I + partners) are going back to the 'rents house for Christmas this year. It will be being cracked into on christmas Eve, so I should have a pretty good idea of how it's faired by Christmas morning

I'm in a similar boat to you brewing wise matey! Being away for christmas, and going to be turning the heating off, I'm not going to risk brewing anything now! My kolsch should be done by then and I have a wlp810 1.5L starter that can sit in the spare room till I get back! :D Got loads of ideas for the new year like, to replenish the stocks! What ideas have you come up with? I've got a tube of WLP060 and a german bock lager to play with! :D

I hadn't noticed the fact that anchor only seem to use NB until I had done mine! Oh well, i'm sure it'll turn out great even if it's not a clone! :D

:D

I got another tube of that Bock yeast too LB. Unfortunately I have no home brew on tap this Chrimbo for the first time in five years, feels bad breaking with tradition.

I bought 17 quids worth of ales from the beer shop but to be honest I have dusted off half of them tonight and the rest will be gone by tomorrow if not later tonight

mate! that is a crying shame about the HB stocks! :( It's so easy to get through a shed load of shop bought beers isn't it! I think we often forget how much our 'habit' would cost to the non brewing punter! :D

I'm really looking forward to getting a decent lager going! I've been keeping that tube of wlp810 for ages! god knows why! I want to come up with a really nice recipe for the bock yeast too! Any sugestions? you seem to be a bit of a lager guru along with bosium!

Hi HB!

As well as the Anchor style Porter I 'm planning a Vienna Lager followed by an Oktoberfest then once spring arrives I'll get some summer ales and an American wheat on the go.

As far as the hopping on the Porter goes I think I'll add cascade anyway as users on the site I got my recipe said it was close, but with more hop character... Which suits me! \:D/

I have yet to decide what style of Vienna to go for - I have a recipe for a Graf style Vienna (Modello Negra Clone) and a more traditional Vienna which is 50 Vienna 25 Pils 20 Muncih 5 Caravien
I'm not going to decoct (apart from maybe a mashout decoction if I feel the urge on brewday) and will mash at 66C Hops are NB and Tet to 26IBU

Yeast will be a 4l (stepped up from 1l>2l>4l) starter of Wyeast Baarian (the equivalent of WL Oktoberfest/marzen) I'll pitch the slurry from 3l and split the remaining 1l for future use

The Oktoberfest is a 58% Pils 38% Munich 4% aromatic hopped to 30IBU ( high end for the style) with Hallertaur at 90 plus a small addition at 15

I am hoping to fit in a kolsch too which will be a very tradidtional effort to use as a base and then I'll run frm there I can see this and centenial Pale ales being my 'house brew'

Nice to see I'm not the only one who turns the heating off when he goes away (well when its this cold, its on for an hour at night and in the morning to stop the water freezing)
You can take the bloke out of Yorkshire....

You cant beat a bit of Yorkshire thirft ! :D

I'm sure you'll have a great festive period with the folks - the Porter should go down a storm!

:)

All the best for 2011
