What a brew !

Post by speedtripledan » Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:33 am

over xmas period i made a new brew standard sort of stuff pale, crystal and hops but i added honey, the result is well nice 3 people already tried it and said the same...
This one will be going into the repeat recipe book :)

one interesting differance i boiled 10 gals and split into 5 gals to ferment 1 went into the fermentation fridge and was held at 20deg the other was heated with an emersion heater which held the wort approx 2 degs higher the 20deg one tastes nicer and cleared better then the 22deg..

Hi!

Did you find it gave you a nice crisp brew ? Could you taste the honey?

How much did you add and when (to the boil?)?

More info please !
:D

The honey adds a lovely aroma and a subtle taste not to strong but defiantly there . I added 2 jars 900grams (10gal brew) at 60 mins in the boil.

On a slight tangent, i had a pint of Fullers Honey Dew the other night, nice pint but i found the honey a bit too potent for my liking and i do like honey.

Mmm honey... To get the absolute most out of honey, adding to secondary works best. Needs to be pasteurised first though. When honey is boiled, an awful lot of its delicate aromas are boiled off. Adding to primary isn't as effective either as the aromas are pumped out the airlock during the initial stages of the ferment. Give it a try next time and I promise you it will work out even better than this one has. ;-)

Mmmm honey...
