AG Brew No1 - Stout!

Post by EsJay_Brewing » Wed Jan 19, 2011 6:51 pm

Hi All,

I meant to write last Saturday when I did my first brew. I jumped in at the deep end with my own recipe as follows:

MO Pale 3500g
Crystal Malt 500g
Roasted Barley 150g
Chocolate Malt 100g
Black Malt 50g

Hops were Fuggles 60min and Goldings (last 10mins)

Yeast S04

20ltr

I don't know the OG as I forgot to do that part so am not to sure how I am going to work out the gravty (I say forgot but might have had something to do with drinking and brewing at the same time) and ideas would be great. Was aiming for 4.3%

Colour = Black :)

Hope it turns out well. Once fermentation has started I don't think you can work out your OG, ... although I might be wrong.

Having a few beers while brewing seems like the perfect day, but supping over six hours might result in a few errors [-X ... I speak from experience

Hi,

just entered your recipe into beer engine and it comes up with 4.3% starting at 1.047 and finishing at 1.014.

i made a stout recently using similar ingredients but used a liquid irish ale yeast.....the whole thing was a disaster! the thing took 3 days to start fermenting then after the ferment i bottled it and used to much priming sugar, leaving me with stout that had the carbonation of a lager.
After supping a few bottles one night i had the shits, i gave a few to my mate and he got the shits aswell.....excellent brew!
Ive kept one just incase i need a day off work.

I'm sure your brew will be excellent!

LOL - Mine started fermenting lmost right away and carried on for the first 2 days and had a head on it about 2 inches thick, slowed down now though. I am hoping for something better than getting the shits! :)
