AG3 relaxed enough to do a report

Post by jimny14 » Sun Feb 27, 2011 3:12 pm

Hi guys, this is my 3rd AG brew so thought i'd do a quick report as i'm wierdly organised today n everything is going well. Just goes to show a bit of organisation n practice is invaluable.

Anyway, here's the recipe.

60min boil, expected OG - 1052. EBU 35

Grain bill

Marris otter - 5kg
Crystal - 500g
Chocolate malt - 250g

Hops

Northdown 7.5% 25g 60 mins
Bramling cross 5.5% 60g 15mins
Bramling cross 5.5% 30g 0mins

Sorry but no pics, my camera battery is flat, i'll endevour to do some pics for my next brew.

Bit of a late start because I slept in and had a load of other stuff to sort out before I got going today, but doesn't matter I've got the house to myself all day. Doughed in at 2pm mash is currently wrapped up doing its thing, Mash temp measured at 65C which i'm happy with, Setting up laptop to stream the rugby in the back ground while I do the sparge, hopefully be able to watch most of the second half uninterupted while the boil does its thing. I'll update stuff later n see how far off my 0G I am. Crossed fingers!

Well all done and tucked away now, smells really good, i've not used bramling cross before so i'm interested to see how this turns out. I got 23l at 1054, so i'm pretty pleased with myself. Think i've ironed out a few little problems I had mash wise which was keeping my efficiency below what I was aiming for. Thanks to everyone for their help with my technique. Here's hoping the next one will hit the OG too. Hopefully I'll remember to get the camera ready for next time too, just the waiting game now to make sure it takes off ok. Will report back in a couple of weeks if i remember.
