Only fan-bloomin-tastic! My best yet TBH.
Deebee wrote:As for the 9 points below estimated OG this will be due to you topping up with water during the boil.

I have done this myself but have now gotten to the point where i brew and if the wort is 1 litre or so too little .. so be it. It means it gets drunk faster and more needs to be brewed.
LOL, I like the way your mind works :) My Old Speckled Hen was ready on Christmas day and I posted on here about it, someone else pointed out the low OG and suggested I calibrate my hydrometer, turns out it's 5 points out so this brew is actually 1009 which is a bit more like it.
think you might be confusing OG and FG

OG is the measurement before you ferment. you said you had 1040 and the recipe wqas 1049. thats because the wort was diluted as you refilled with water during the boil.

Oops, yeah you're right! The hydrometer was still out by 5 though so it would have been more like 1045.

Hi Kegman.

Glad you liked the recipe and that it worked so well.

Credit for that copy has to go to Pete Laycock of "Pete's Pint Pot" who originally worked out the recipe for use with Malt Extract brewing and gave me permission to use it on my website. He also has a VERY Extensive brewing calculator available as an excel spreadsheet which can be downloaded from his website or from the "yobrew" site.
As his recipe was based on malt extract, the quantity of grain used in the mash would need to have been higher to achieve the same OG level, so that might account for the lower abv you experienced if you just did a straight swap ?

Hope you liked the Broadside - I haven't made that one yet, but I am currently drinking Graham Wheelers version of London Pride (at home - sadly not as a taster in the shop :D ) and I've got some Wells Bombardier conditioning that I have adapted from a recipe I found on an American forum.

Hi Andy

Have you posted your recipe for Bombardier? I'm having a go at this next.
