Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
mmm little bit of a debate here then on Citra, got to admit that my all citra brew smelt a little cat pissy at 3 weeks in the bottle now at almost 5 weeks its back to the peachy citrus smell and taste i was expecting, its very nice

How long has your citra been in the bottle? Was contemplating A similar brew but really dont like the thought of a pissy smell in my beer.
If it does fade away after a bit of time in the bottle/barrel would consider also a good way to stop you drinking it before it is ready

I could do with a bit of help in that department

Well, I kegged two cornie's worth on Friday. One is for bottling and the other is for supping. I couldn't detect any piss smells only full blown tropical fruit. The hydro-jar sample was the best I've tasted by far.
Hydro reading was showing 1.010 so that is around 3.9-4%

Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
I have a Citra experiment ongoing as well, which I started yesterday so I will let you know whether I get a nice fruity smell or otherwise.
My recipe for 25L was
4.475Kg MO Pale Male
0.2Kg Torrefied Wheat
10g Citra 60 mins
15g Cutra 15 mins
15g Citra 10 mins
15 g Citra 5 mins
15 g Citra 2 mins
15 g Citra 1 mins
15 g Citra Flame Out
I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
Dry hopped my Citra Pale ale on Sunday and i'm still getting a nice passion fruit aroma, got the missus to have a sniff and without any prompting she said it smelt of ammonia (posh word for cat piss smell) so maybe it's down to the individuals sense of smell?

Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale

I had a bottle and pint from the cornie yesterday and I would say it is easily one of the best beers I've tasted for a long time. The aroma is obviously better from the bottle but it's a very nice pint.
Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
I dry hopped my citra brew with some Cascade I had left over and the smell is amazing - not a hint of pee. Hopefully it'll be ready to start drinking around Friday.
Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
another taste update. honestly now its like biting into a ripe juicy peach wow. very nice indeed may need another couple of weeks yet but certainly one of my best
Re: AG8 - Citra Pale Ale
Did one of these recently viewtopic.php?f=24&t=39227 and got an amazing grapefruit/passionfruit aroma (50g @ flameout). No sign of piss at all. Took to my brewing group London Amateur Brewers and was even asked by professional brewer how I'd managed to achieve that aroma - You really don't need to dry-hop this variety! Shame the beer had become oxidised though... but that's another issue.
