BIAB #5

Post by oz11 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 6:49 pm

Going to have brew day tomorrow to use up some bits and pieces.
The malt bill will be something like:
91% Pale Malt
3.5% Crystal
3.5% Munich
2% CaraAmber

Hops will be
Northdown (8.7% AA) and
Challenger (7.6%AA) 60min boil for bittering

Northdown late hops at 15 min.

Yeast S04.

The style/ingredients is based loosely on Badger Dorset best bitter (munich and caraamber not in the original recipe).

Mini-BIAB looking for about 10 or 11L into bottles, at an OG of 1041 and IBU about 28 which is a shade higher than the original. Exact quantities will depend on contents of freezer and malt store.

Given the high alkalinity of my tap water I am, for the first time, going to try out some water treatment. Addition of CRS (about 1mg/L) to the total volume of liquor before the mash, and a small addition of gypsum to the mash, and then to the boil.
Wish me luck!

All done and tucked up, one day I'll get organised and get a camera sorted out for some pix!
Ended up with about 13L in FV and OG1038. More wort and less gravity, but I looked over my figures after I cleared up and started with too much liquor. Completely ignoring the actual figures that I worked out last night #-o

All went smoothly apart from that, and now the waiting begins....
