Re: Growling Dog Brewery - First Brew - piccies
Spot on, I stick 2 kettles of boiled water in the MT and leave it while eating breakfast with the HLT warming up.Runwell-Steve wrote:If I do underletting, obviously it is going to be critical to get my Strike Water temperature correct.
If I don't reheat my Mash Tun I lose about 10C when adding the Strike Water, so if I include the loss in temp to grain I would need to be adding my Strike Water at about 81 degrees to end at a 66C Mash Temperature. This seems a bit hot to me to be hitting the grain first off.
I suppose the answer is to thoroughly pre heat the Mash Tun, then drain it, add the grain, then add the strike water at about 73C underletting.
Does that sound about right?

Aleman was smart enough to wrap an electric blanket element round the mash tun so it's plug-in-and-pre-heat for me... But pre-heating as Dennis suggests is as easy.

I use a Hair Dryer to warm up my MT but like to use a step mash so I can start at 40 and work my way up

Epic setup. You should be proud
I have ordered the same gas burner but with a 50mbar low pressure propane reg. I was wondering what reg you got in the end and how long it took the burner to get your boil going.
