What a great day!

Post by guypettigrew » Sat May 21, 2011 4:58 pm

Brew No 3 is now in the fermenting vessel.

Starting out with 4.2 Kg of pale malt and 500g of crystal malt I've produced a brew of just over 5 gallons (about 23.5 litres) at an OG of 1.050 and IBU of45.

The hops were East Kent Golding (55g, AA 4.6%) and Fuggles (31g, AA 5.4%) for the boil, plus 16g of EKG when I turned the heat off. It was 16g because 16g was all I had left!

The mash didn't flow easily at the beginning, sticking after about 1/2 gallon. I stirred it, ignored it for a few minutes, then all was well.

Here's a few pictures.

First, 3 pictures of my extremely primitive mash tun and sparging arrangement. Then one of the wort. This was taken when it was running at a gravity of about 1.035. Nice and clear, isn't it?! Then one of the wort boiling away. Hope you enjoy them.

Thank you, but it's just a plastic thingy with a tap and a kettle element. seems a bit ordinary to me!
