On friday night I attempted my first all grain. I have put the photos on a blog rather than try to get them on here.
It was a great experience and was even helped out by my wife.
There are lots of pictures missing as I got caught up in the whole process.
I mucked up a bit miscalculating losses and ended up a bit short so I expect that it is a little overhopped.
Oh and my efficiency was a bit below the recipe.
At least I have got something to work off now.

The efficiency is the actual amount of extract you get from the grain. Using a spreadsheet /beer data programme/maths you can work out what the 100% yeild of a weight of grain will give you.
You then put in a number for your systems efficiency ,say 75%, and the programme/maths will tell you what extract you should actually achieve.
So for example a 100% yeild from a grain bill could be 58.7 degrees of gravity.
An efficiency of 75% will give you an actual extract of 44 degrees of gravity.
My actual efficiency was less than my estimated so I only acheived 41 degrees of gravity thus I am working at 70% efficiency.
Thats if I have worked it out right!
I hope this helps.
