SimBob Gold Ordinary Bitter

Post by Clibit » Thu Apr 21, 2016 4:50 pm

This is a beer I bottled a month ago and the bottle I just necked was bloody lovely. Taken a month to hit its stride and now likely to disappear fast. Only 3.5% but good body and mouthfeel, and a nice balance between malt and hops. It's a malt bill I'm getting to like with some added Carapils, which I put in there cos of the low ABV, and I mashed at 68C, got a FG of 1015, and it seems to have done the trick. I like this yeast, WLP006. Nice hop blend too:

Batch Size (L): 9.5
Original Gravity (OG): 1.042
Final Gravity (FG): 1.015
Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 3.50 %
Colour (SRM): 6.0 (EBC): 11.8
Bitterness (IBU): 32.6 (Average)
Brewhouse Efficiency (%): 82
Boil Time (Minutes): 60

1.216 kg Maris Otter Malt (81.12%)
0.071 kg Carapils (Dextrine) (4.74%)
0.071 kg Crystal 145 EBC Medium (4.74%)
0.057 kg Dry Malt Extract - Light (3.8%)
0.041 kg Torrified Wheat (2.74%)
0.043 kg Dextrose (Priming Sugar) (2.87%)

7.0 g Chinook Pellet (12.5% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes
12.0 g Brewers Gold Leaf (5% Alpha) @ 15 Minutes
12.0 g Bobek Leaf (4.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes
12.0 g Brewers Gold Leaf (6.9% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes
12.0 g Simcoe Leaf (13.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes

2.0 g Gypsum (Mash)
2.0 g Irish Moss @ 15 Minutes
1.0 g Gypsum (Boil)

Certainly does look good, and I might nick some of his ideas for a low abv session bitter recipe that I am working on with Fuggles and a little Amarillo.

Cheers
