First Ever Brewday 01/09/2007 Belgian Blonde Ale

So here we go. New coolbox mash tun from H&G replacing the crapo one I made which leaked. Started at 11am finished at half four. Here's a pic of the mash doughed in about to get wrapped up in the sleeping bag once the lid goes on!

Bit sloppy but it worked great and lost only one degree in the 75 minutes.
On to the boil, Took ages to get a rolling boil going due to the one element - Must add to that! The smell took me back to wandsworth as a kid with the smell from the Youngs brewery very evident as you waited for the bus.

Here comes the wort! Ended up with 30 odd litres at 1060 after I put way to much water for the sparge! Mainly due to paranoia that I didn't have enough in the boiler. Should be strong enough though.

Pitched the white labs 530 yeast in 20 sommat litres and Brewferm Belgian yeast in the other 10 litres in another fermenter.

Ditto! Nice work there Burner, lovely clear wort. At 1060 it should be a fearsome brew 8). Isn't it fantastic that you can make whatever the hell you like with grain beer, no kit manufacturers dictating what you should brew!

=D> Superb work, take yourself a pint!

(how far away is that blue car in the second pic, or have you got a massive boiler?)

Aye that's true JP - I was a little nervous not having the instructions in one hand and the can opener in the other :D

Ah the family saloon it's seen better days.....

It may have been a bit of a challenge but it's certainly not as hard as you first think is it! It gets easier from here and the beer gets even better!

Have yourself a fine Belgian Ale as a reward 8)

Very nice setup you have there. The beer looks fantastic.

Haven't heard the word plimsoll for a long long time. Bleddy PE lessons, love it :)
