The big match EK Vs Styrian
In a head to head 4kg of maris each and the same IBU 28 in the ratio 2:1 bittering to flavour, Ringwood yeast (liberated from a recent visit to their brewery) SA04 a bit strong for so pale a beer IMO. Everything to be equal. Then in six weeks I could finally, side by side truly compare these great hops.
Well that was the plan

the first up to the oche was the EK things went well, er sort of , forgot to put the false bottom in the mash tunboiled off far too much water but managed to get 18 litres at 40 eff 73% IBU's were a little high at 31
Next up was the Stryians things here really didn't matter as the TC's I had had during the first brew and the bottle of wine (friend came round who was a wine drinker) were fully taking effect, but managed to squeeze 20 litres at 44 eff 73% IBU's a little low at 27.
You may be wandering how I managed to get too differing gravities and the same efficency well I was puzzled by that until I took a look at the spent grain one pile was bigger than the other, seems I only put 5 scoops in the first instead of six so it had 3.3 kg if maris and not 4.
Oh well never mind they are still roughly the same and 38 litres of good beer is worth it anyways up. Oh well it will be tough deciding which is the best but someone will have to do it.... oh me
