Sounds like you were suffering from chill haze which is likely if you don't use any copper finings. Whirfloc/protofloc will greatly reduce that haze. The Mighty Badger wrote:I reckon you'll be fine. I was really bothered that my first AG (mid Nov last year) wasn't clearing or going to clear. I didn't add any finings to the copper. It had ten days in the primary; still cloudy. The it had 3 weeks in a secondary container in our spare fridge at 8 degrees; still cloudy. It tasted OK so I decided to give it more time. The week before Christmas I racked it (still cloudy) into a Corney with a sachet of hydrated gelatin (as picked up on JBK); on Christmas Eve we tried it; first two pints still cloudy but then it was as clear as anything. Interesting when the keg got moved outside for a couple of days (very cold) it became hazey again, but a day back in the pantry (around 16 degrees) it cleared again.
What I learned - it will clear; it just may need some patience, belief and perhaps a bit of rendered cow!

Interesting. I hadn't picked up on the fact that a 'floc tablet would also deal with a chill haze.

OK after 5 days in secondary and no sign of clearing I got bored and ordered some Isinglass from H&G. Also it wasnt chill haze as I took a sample and warmed it to 20 deg with no difference. I added it today so hopefully it should clear soon. Does anyone know how long it will take? Also When diluting the Isinglass with half a pint of the beer from the fermentor I stirred it quite well. Will the oxygen introduced mess up my beer at all?
Hopefully I can keg soon.

In my experience isinglass can work in just a few hours. Quite incredible to watch it work (if you have a clear FV)

Looking back on the post I made, I can't believe I was that patronising. The Mighty Badger wrote:Interesting. I hadn't picked up on the fact that a 'floc tablet would also deal with a chill haze.

My excuse is I had a uni exam the next morning so my head was spinning already.

OK after adding the Isinglass finings the other day the beer has cleared a great deal! amazing stuff that Isinglass. Still very hazy but loads better so hopefully in a couple of weeks it will be fully clear. Anyway I kegged the beer today and its safely tucked away under 10psi of CO2 so Ill let you know how it is in a couple of weeks. Incedetly My mate donated me a Becks tap and fosset from his dads pub which I will set up for this brew with the 3/16th line and JG fittings I got last week.

the crud the fish guts removed

Before anyone says anything I just added the hydrometer to demonstarte how the beer had cleared in 2 days!
