Yes I was wondering who would notice the basmati! Trying to make the tea and boil my wort, I nearly ended up with rice wine and curry garnished with Styrian Goldings!

No steeping for this just 20g of S.G for the last 10. Its bubbling away nicely and smells fantastic. I have high hopes for this one.

I've just kegged my 1st attempt. It looks a little darker than Deuchars but smells similar, don't forget my first attempt i fell short with a higher gravity 1046. I got it down to 1012 in the end which will give me an ABV of 4.4%. Image

Well the first batch of Deuchars has been drunk. I had my brother inlaw came round who wouldn't leave untill it was all gone!
It was a plesant beer but i must say it was not like Deuchars., Maybe this is down to me messing up the wort volume on this batch. It just didn't have that powerful hop aroma which smells just like a Jamacans cigarete and fowllows through to the taste. I am just gassing up my 2 nd attempt but i have to say It tastes just like my first attempt, I'd better not tell the brother inlaw!!!

Has anyone else made or drunk GW recipe for this beer?

What yeast did you use and at what temprature did it ferment at?
Are you going to change anything on your next attempt?

I used a 12g safale 05 from paul at Barley bottom,,, and it ferments at about 23C in my "growing room" (cupboard under the stairs where my grow light is)

I think you need a hop addition while you're cooling the wort to really get that powerful hop aroma. I can't remember the exact blend but its on the forum somewhere. Fuggles, Aurora, Williamette & Styrians?

I've done this three times and this recipe came pretty close, tasted very like the bottled stuff, the only bit I haven't used is the brown sugar, will do that next time though

Nice one Garth, would there be much of a difference using MO instead?

I did AGNo 5 on Sat which was Deuchars IPA and came in short at 1045 at 16lts too.

I didn't have any fuggles so swapped out for Brambling Cross; pitched at 1500hrs and it was bubbling away at 2130hrs; down to 3 a min now.

You'll have to let us know how it tastes. I love the stuff but the couple of attempts I have tried to make are nothing like the real deal, hopefully you'll have better luck

I think I used GP on my first attempt and I'm not sure if I could taste any difference, Caledonian apparently use 45% Golden Promise and 65% Optic for the malt.
