Hi Leeds,

That looks wicked! black as treacle! I love dark beers, especially Stouts, and that post mash pic looks like a really rich espresso :D

Any other reason why you attach the syphon tube to your mashtun for sparging?, other than to avoid the wort going everywhere? I guess what I'm getting at, is although we want to aerate the wort post-boil - is there any issues with it getting aerated pre-boil?

I've started collecting a couple of litres of the first runnings, sticking it in a large pan, heating on the stove up to around 80C and adding it to the top of the grain bed - it's a bit fiddly, but I've had some very cloudy worts of late...

Anyway, your stout looks fantastic! would love to try a bottle sometime!

Ta very much GB. It is an awesome beer. The tube creates a syphon effect so the tun drains to the last drop. When the wort is all the way up the tube you can hear it suck the tun dry at the end. I have seen my efficiency go up a good 8-10% since using the tube :D :D

Is this like a step mash? I've done a couple of decoctions before. Really nice in a riggwelter I did. :D

This is almost gone now but will be doing a new batch ASAP as I think this will become my house stout recipe. PM me your address and I'll send you a bottle if you like! :D

One question though.....where's the Coffee ?
Thanks adm. The name's from Paul @ Barley Bottom. It's his recipe from his recipe kits. I can see where he is coming from. Even from just the little sample I had today it definitely has some complex coffee and chocolate flavours going on.
looks great! I always add a helping of good quality ground coffee beans at the last 2 mins of the boil. Great flavours.
