Sorry for this being off topic. In the pic below:

I've noticed you've used some sort of insulation on your mash tun. What is this exactly and is it waterproof / can you wipe i down if any grain etc get on it? Im looking to do something like this to my mash tun as my current insulation is a bit naff.

Thanks for any help. Beer looks great BTW. :)

Its Foil backed Camping mats... bought on ebay, sometimes available in Aldi etc http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=foil ... =en&tab=wf
I'd recommend buying two, even to double layer a small bucket its easier with 2 mats.

could you not use that foil covered foam they used to put behind radiators? it looks fairly similar and is possibly cheaper than camping equipment?

Just taken a Hydro sample...

Smells, fruity but not too fruity.
Tastes, earthy and full.
Bitterness is lovely and broad.

Still has some yeast in suspension, though its hit its predicted OG, I'll bottle tomorrow if the OG is still steady.

:)

Bottled last Wednesday, tester bottle just opened.
Its not got the Bitterness I wanted, should be 66EBU but tastes smooth and very tropical fruity, tastes good and is already very refreshing just lacking the intended bitterness.
I'll have to re-brew something like this and loose the Pacific gem at the start and replace it with aroma hops instead to the same IBU, Hmmm, its nice but not what I was expecting :)

Had a proper taste of this last night...

Its Blooming Fantastic!! Quite possibly the most flavoursome interesting and balanced (to my pallet) beer I have brewed!! :)

The Bitterness is coming through nicely but isn't overpowering, the nose on it is very evident and the flavours just explode in yer gob, bitterness lingers and is very nice :)

Must be the 80c steep that gives such a full flavour, one to brew again :) :)

Glad to hear it matey. Still waiting for Paul to get his NS on the web site then I recon I might have a go at something resembling this! Maybee use carapils instead of caramalt (as it's what I have in stock! :D ) Did you dry hop this one?

Shame I wasn't doing two brews today, I could have used all those used hops as bittering in a stout or something.
Now there is an idea I've never heard of before! :D :D Recession brewing
Aye, pdtnc says, it used to be common in the 18th/19th centuries — brewers would brew a bitter one day and use the hops again the next day for a porter.

What's to stop you freezing them till next brewday??
I've frozen the 1oz of 50/50 cascade/centennial from dry hopping the yankee red I did the other week and going to use it in a four shadesish! :D

Paul has NS in stock, I popped round yesterday for a nosey :)
I didn't dry hop, it was just the 80c steep for 30mins :)

I've just dumped 35g of Dry hopping hops from my Munich brew, could have frozen them! #-o

So i'm led to believe. They have't been boiled so will still be good for bittering. Something like a stout or porter I recon will be an ideal test candidate! :D
