I've been keeping my gob shut on here for ages! Worst I've done is not fully shut a tap and had a slight dribble issue!

Forgot to add hop strainer and poured in 1st mash, saw said hop strainer on side and thought that's odd.
Lesson learned: 66C is still too hot for hands.

I normally have minor issues small leaks etc, but I've had one major disaster. I didn't check the hose clips on my HERMS heat exchanger and half way through the mash I managed to pump 15L of sticky wort all over my garage floor. I was in the house having lunch at the time
Moral of the story - stick to a liquid lunch in the garage while brewing.

I had a barrel and must have forgotten to vaseline the lid properly or something. Still the beer was fine, just had to take the lid off to get the beer out at a reasonable speed. Forgot to put the lid back on though and a week or so later when I came for some more it was like dregs left in a glass overnight.
Also to leaving taps open, did that a few weeks ago in the lab on my separating funnel. Thankfully I had left a flask underneath it that I hadn't bother to tidy up properly.

Even more annoying when it's on your tick sheet & you still forget *7 times a year -doh!

I Think my biggest balls up has been measuring out 800g of sugar from a 2kg bag then absent mindedly emptying the bag with the remaining 1200g of sugar into the wort. It was 10 mins later when I couldn't work out why there was 800g of sugar still on the scales that it clicked!?!

Mmmmn, that's a 'good' mistake!

Not properly securing the output side of the IC and having a good dose of scalding hot water squirt at me, it could have been worse though! Who was it who accidently let it spill on their bare foot, and posted a pic of a foot which was basically just one big blister.

The only major mistake to date was forgetting the Protafloc in our attempt at a batch of Sierra Nevada. It's now a tasty and hoppy beer, if somewhat cloudy.

I dry hopped a mild once with hops that had been sitting out all summer in the porch, not in an airtight container... whole keg tasted like blue cheese a day later

I had a pint of Kelham Island's Best Bitter the other day at a beer festival and it had a distinctly cheesy aroma.
I wonder what sort of infection causes it?

I don't think it was an infection, I think it's just the smell of old hops. Maybe some kind of oxidation reaction with the hop oils.
Whenever my girlfriend brews with me and I give her some hops to smell (which I think smell great), she always screws up her face and says they smell like 'cheesy feet'.
