Fingers crossed it will create something for you. How much did you caramelise and to what temp? I caramelise 2L of first runnings until it reaches 105c.
I didn't take a temp, just boiled the living fu** out of it and got 1 litre of first runnings to 250ml. i didn't want to go mad as I was thinking too caramelized would start altering the colour and I wanted to keep this brew pale.

Just had a sneaky taster of first 330ml sampler bottle and although there's still a hint of priming sweetness there is definite toffee/caramel aromas on the nose and I do believe what I think is a slight vanilla hit, very subtle underneath. I don't think it needs to be any more pronounced in this beer so for my particular recipe (own recipe summer quaffing bitter - 4.1% abv) I'm going to stick with 1l first runnings boiled and reduced to 250ml.

Very nice indeed, cheers for the heads up on the technique.

Brilliant! Glad you tasted vanilla too. Thought I was going mad... :shock:

Nope, you're not mad (unless I am and so we both are) the vanilla is definitely there and the only contributors are Maris Otter, Pale Crystal and some Torrified Wheat in the MT.
