a big part of the kick for me is the simple life, rustic charm of knocking out a diy batch of beer using whatever i have on hand. i have to weigh up every improvement to the 'brewery' like it's a listed building! "will the loss of lifting 40L water on a dodgy ladder above my head to set up a 3-tier sparge system through purchase of a pump affect my enjoyment of ye olde brewday?". quite possibly.

have to admit the pump won on that front. when brewing alone that's a hell of a lift..

good work on your setup. i think we should start a ghetto gear thread on here like they got on the aussie forum. there's some [censored!]inspiring stuff on there!

[Please don't circumvent the swear filters on this board - if we allowed obscenities, we wouldn't have the filters on!. Jim]

You know I have never quite worked out what"type " of Brewer I am. I mash in a bag, sometimes in tun then batch sparge, sometimes in the burco with as much
water as I can fit in,then dunk the bag in hotter water and add that to boil as and when upto last 15 min's.
so am I doing maxibiab,AG or what. Not really into labels but would be nice to know..

I believe the official international terminology is "non shiny man cave method" :)
