Looks and sounds a bit like those Fullers past masters beers.

There is a few recipes from Fullers in the book, one is the 1887 Fullers XXK which is said to have been the beer that the first of the past masters series was based on. Id quite like to do a Scotch ale, or maybe a Porter from the book but have the next 3 brews lined up so i'll see what i fancy when I've brewed those
