With a shit glass?? :)

Looks good, fair play for trying a big as [censored] beer and don't be disheartened if it doesn't work out. US05 is a very forgiving yeast though, so you should be good

Cam,
Your shot glass will float with 100gr Hops.
You will need a lot more weight than that.
Go to B&M cheap shop, 1 small bag of marbles / glass beads will hold down 25gr Hops,
1 Big bag marbles / glass beads will hold down 100gr hops.
Sterilise / rinse them first before you use them.

Hope this helps,

WA

Don't worry - it's a good thing. The process of boiling the wort causes the cruddy stuff to stick together so it forms the feathery clumps that you can see. This lets it bind together and drop out of suspension leaving you with brighter beer. The process is even more effective if you use finings in the last 15 min's of the boil like protafloc (refined irish moss) as this sticks the break material together more effectively.

I should have looked into it sooner and bought marbles as you suggest but only read about dry hopping just before I did it. I'll be sure to pick some up for the next time.

Sweet. As a matter of fact I used Irish Moss at last 15mins so guessing it did its job. Was going to get Whirlfloc but my local shop only had the IR.

So I took the "dry hops" out the fermenter last night as per the instructions. The head on the beer has subsided a lot and the bubbling slowed down to just under once a minute. The beer smells more like beer now as before it was VERY pungent, seems to have settled down. It still looks like a muddy puddle though. Hoping it will clear with the rest of time in fermenter and after bottling.

Yes but be sure to sanitise anything that comes into contact with the wort and don't put the sample back.

Ive got a tap on the bottom of the fermeter, so I was just going to draw some off from that. If it tastes good it will all go in my belly haha.

Sanitise the tap before and after. Also, at this stage it's worth trying to draw off a minimum of beer to avoid pulling too much air into the fermenter. I try to take a sample without getting a reverse glug through the airlock.

So I just took a sample to check the gravity.

The sample

OG 1.074
Current Gravity 1.012

Thinking of leaving it another week to clean up. Thoughts?

I did taste it and I'm blown away by how good it is. "Touch wood"
