The bronco tap height is somewhat misleading from the outside as the base of the boiler is actually empty space and the internal boiler floor only goes down to the "seam" you can see below the tap. So there's only a couple of cm difference in height between the tap outlet and the boiler bottom. With a bit of tilting at the end of the drainoff then I get virtually all the wort out. And yes I'm still using the rolled up splatter guard as a filter

oh, THAT insulation!
Yes, it's a length of 0.5" armaflex from http://www.bes.ltd.uk/nav_graf/frames_c ... ts/086.asp
Actually seemed to work and gave me a nice hot sparge output.
Tip: slit it lengthways and fit over pipe rather than trying to thread the pipe through it.

29/08/2006 Update: Well the beer is fermenting away but without the trademark explosive yeast head! Instead we have a "normal" billowy (is that a word) head about an inch thick with a fair bit of trub on top and white foam underneath. Will probably skim the trub off tonight. Gravity last night was about 1038.
30/08/2006 Update: skimmed debris from top of yeast head last night. Head nice and thick this morning, bubbling away. Gravity last night 1023.
30/08/2006 Update: nice thick, dark creamy yeast head now (see below) - Gravity 1012, approaching FG.

31/08/2006 Update: Gravity now 1009 so all over bar the shouting, will rack to KingKeg in next couple of days.
