I still have the covoluted stainless CFC to trial, even has triclovers welded to it ;) yet to see if the immersion chiller will fit in the new boiler - but if it does, 50m of copper tube will still IMHO will give a plate a run for its money (do a rough calc on surface areas), for this trial brewday the plate was the easy option + I had the silicone mesh seals (tri clover) before the plate just incase (werent needed). If I keep using the plate I will need a throttle control to reduce temps more, the chugger pushed things a little too fast.

Forget cleaning of CFC v plate v IC, at least with an IC its very easy to check if you have a fermentable temp, I`m at the moment getting fed up with a fermenter full of wort that stills needs a little bit extra chilling before I can pitch, then there is the agrument of using a plate v hops still at near boiling, whereas the IC will reduce the whole temp in the pot.

Or on the other hand, the beer tastes ok for my palete so who the f... cares? how its cooled as long as there isnt an infection. I think I should visit the water forum a little more now and start worring about afew grams of this and a few of the other, again if the conversion is in the ballpark does it really matter if the PH is 0.1 out ;)

Now strict control over ferment :) I`m all in + storage of the product afterward is now getting more important to me, that and can I reproduce the same recipe again - which will rely on careful measurement of what ever procedure is adopted.

Cheers

Just an idea, would it be worth cutting a couple of holes in the boiler lid to mount the IC to and having it in situ throughout the boil ?, shouldn't think it would interfere with the hops moving around/utilisation during the boil to much. Have to agree it would be much more efficient than the plate chiller + it does away with the PITA of cleaning and sanitising the bloody thing.

I`ve just tried big bertha in the boiler with a couple of leg extensions it would fit (3rd element gets in the way at the moment) other problem is that both the feed and return pipework would be on the side of the pot so back to the drawing board on that one / or a complete rebuild job on the IC. :(

I'm drooling over your setup, lots of shiny things. Love it. Hope the brew turns out well for you.

Just Kegged my green hop up today managed 2x20ltrs + 1x50ltr + a few bottles.

All in the kegerator not only keeping the 70ltrs of Ditch Stout company but the milk as well :)

Important Tip to all you married men out there ......always offer to use the kegerator as an overflow storage fridge :)

The end result......

I was aiming for a red-er colour so its a little dark, taste wise quite a well rounded result for a 5.5%,could have done with alot more green hops but couldnt do much about the harvest this year, fingers crossed for next year.
