There was a thread about them, then add bought them and sold them on. Used to be one way plastic kegs for commercial breweries but the spike and be unscrewed so good for HBing.

This is drinking very well! Lovely dark fruit/coffee/toffee esters with just enough hops to balance. A quick pull on the 'pocket beer engine' and it has perfect 'cask' condition. Dispensed from the polykeg! :D

I'm salivating here. Thanks Leedsbrew, I've been ill and off the ale over Christmas, this has perked me up no end. I couldn't face a blonde hoppy but could murder a dark warming pint like your you tube one. I think I'd better get my brewhouse sorted and get an ESB on. Goldings, fuggles and challenger in stock so its time to play with GW's beer engine whilst I feign working. Thanks again. I will try the syring trick too, very cool. Did you grow the beard just to show off the smooth foamy head?
I think I will use your grist as far as poss, looks perfect.

no I won't...only have the pale malt out of that list!

Just a test. Although to be honest its smooth as a shaved snake! I'm quite impressed with the MJ yeast.

No worries fella! Glad your on the mend! I'm a beardy most of the year tbh! :D

The syringe trick is great for knocking out an over carbonated beer or getting a nice tight head on a pint.

The grist I'm very happy with. Smooth and creamy mouth feel with hints of dark dried fruits and just enough roast to round it off! :D

Just catching up after crimbo- glad this turned out well mate! Good news on the MJ yeast, always good to hear how new stuff works out. I'm brewing an Anchor Steam clone at the moment (sparging as I type!) from which I'll use the yeast cake in a Pilsner, after those I may just have to get this on the go :-)

Cheers,
Jamie

Glad it turned out well, will have to give it a ago before the summer!

The steam beer brew went well thanks, it's tasting very good! I'll have to grab a bottle of Anchor and do a side-by-side, mines perhaps not as smooth. I've still got the yeast in the fridge, just need to fit in a brewday for a pilsner- I feel a day off work coming up ;-)

Cheers,
Jamie

LeedsBrew - ESB 6.3% (I think)

Pours a deep mahogany colour, with a red hue when held up to a light.
Small tan head, which disperses quite quickly. Its is full bodied with a cracking mouthfeel. Its a tasty pint that you can chew.
From the aroma I get a sweet caramel smell, with hints of chocolate, coffee and a very mild alcohol smell.
On to the taste, first of all you get the sweet toffee and caramel flavour from the malts, then follows a dark smooth chocolate taste, the develops in to a coffee after taste that gets you at the back of the palate. Then comes a dark fruit taste of figs and dates. There seems to be a lot going on in this ale.

I think this could be better than the Riggwelter which I believe LeedsBrew based this on. I would have to try them side by side, but this sure is good! Well done on another cracking ale!
