On Saturday I am doing my seventh AG brew, albeit the first I have got round to posting on the forum
I'm doing HH's pilsner recipe. I have rounded up the amounts a little:
Pilsner Malt 3,000g
Carapils Malt 400g
Flaked Maize 400g
Brewing Sugar 400g
Saaz hops (90 mins) 63g
Saflager Yeast
I'm also testing out my photograph-posting capabilities, so fingers crossed...
Here's a picture of the grain bill...
...and that's all the brewing-related pictures I have at the moment, so this is Dannii...
...and this is Bob...
Mashing is scheduled to commence at 9am. I am hoping that this is one that Mrs R will like to drink.
She has just gone to Africa for 10 days with work. Hmm...

OK, so far so good
Doughed in at 9.15am. Here's a picture of the mash:
Unfortunately, I couldn't get the thermometer in focus (need to learn how to use the new camera!) but it settled at 66.5C.
Mash tun wrapped up in quilt:
It's been going for a little over an hour now, so I'm just going to check the temperature.

It's now at about 65.5C, so that's OK.
Almost time to start sparging

Just cooling at the moment.
Another long day, but it's looking good and it smelled superb during the boil - completely different to anything else I've done so far.

All done and cleared up, and now ready to post a few more photos!
First runnings:
After a couple of recirculations:
Initial run-off from mash tun:
First batch running off:
Start of the boil:
Hops going in:
Glucose going in:
Cooling underway:
Dropping into fermenter:
Maybe the finished brew will have decent head retention - unlike everything else I have produced so far

:
Spent hops (very little break material

):
Hydrometer reading was 1.037 at 25C. My hydrometer is old and therefore calibrated at 60F. I reckon that makes my OG about 1.039, and I ended up with about 24 litres, so pretty happy with that. The wort isn't very clear, and I can't get the camera to focus on hydrometers/thermometers etc yet

:
I have placed it in the garage for the fermentation (with my old cars - another weekend activity

) to keep it reasonably cool as I do not have any temperature control equipment.
A long day, but very enjoyable, and I can't wait to see how this one turns out
Thanks for all your good comments today!
Next up: Vossy's oatmeal stout, I reckon. Probably in a few weeks
