Aberdeen Union Street 200

Got a night off tonight so I thought I'd get up early and brew Union Street as I've been wanting to do this recipe for a long time. It's straight out of Marc's book but I've changed the amount of Target in the recipe due to the large AA of my hops.

23L
Mash 90min
Boil 90min

Est OG 1050

Pale Malt 5315g
Crystal Malt 115g
Roast Barley 225g

16g Target 11%AA 90min
7g Hallatauer 2% AA 15min

Not too happy with the Fawcett malt (usually use Warminster), after recirculating 7L of wort it still wasn't a clear runoff, compared to 1.5L of the usual malt.

Had to use the 10 gallon boiler after 30mins as the element had switched off due to excessive amounts of trub caking to it. The element was super shiny when it went in! Not particularly happy with the hop strainer in the boiler as I felt I could've obtained more wort out of the boiler (I certainly would've using Joes strainer in the Leyland boiler). So a design rethink is in order at some point.

I ended up with 21L @ 1052 which I could've watered down to 1050 and got the desired 23L but this is The Lazy Brewery after all and I really couldn't be arsed

The Brew has just gone into the FV and I'll be upping pics later. Time for a pint of No Regrets as I don't really deserve it

Out of secondary into the keg today plus a few bottles. Finished at 1010 so that's 5.5% abv, 0.5% over the book stats but I'm not complaining :D

Cheers Iowalad. Activity is directly linked with lack of stocks 6 cornis, 2 King Kegs , 2 HB supercasks & 3 Pressure Barrels are empty at the moment and are in need of filling pronto as I only have 3 cornis and a few bottles full
