Brewing this today. I've got the 4% Amarillo which some people have been having trouble with. Mine are a little off-colour, but they smell fine. I've got a kilo so I hope they work out... :? Fermenting with some WLP001 sludge.

I've got some of these amarillo too, so I'll be interested to know the results of this. Also I've used brupaks Hallertauer mittlefruh recently on 2 brews as a single hop, bloody delicious. I wonder how the NZ hallertauer will compare.

Hope all goes well :)

Ran out of gas while I was heating the mash liquor up

Well, not quite run out but the pressure was dropping and I had to keep shaking the gas can to increase the pressure. I didn't want to risk mashing in because there is no going back after that. At least i've got the grains weighed out for whenever the gas gets delivered.

Finally getting around to this today. Modified the recipe slightly, I think i'm going to FWH with 80g of the NZ Hallertau, then dump 100g of Amarillo in while chilling, should be interesting at least.

Just a quick update on this, it turned out delicious, maybe one of my best. If anyone's got this batch of 4% Amarillo that are slightly off-colour, I wouldn't hesitate to use them. The Amarillo character is very fresh.

Bizarrely, the FWH seems to have produced a beer that seems a bit more bitter than I would expect the 30 IBUs in the recipe to be. Seems more like 40. Nicely balanced with the caramalt, though :D

Well done M. I've still got about 3kg left of the same 4% batch, they may look awful, but they smell spicy and I love the grapefruit flavour they give.
Must do another Amarillo on Monday
