brewday 14/3/8 MOVIES

Well some part of me decided to get the movie camera in on a brew. I wouldn't recommend trying this without a mate to help... knackering!
I've recorded the whole process from harvesting some yeast, bottling & kegging, mashing, boiling, cooling, pitching, aerating etc... It's crap camera work and poor lighting but hey...
I invite all criticism of my process, in the hope of making better beer
So here's the first vids - I'll edit this post as more are available, rather than string out along the whole thread...
Preparing to brew - Yeast Harvesting
Keg & Bottle sanitising
Kegging & Bottling
getting the mash on
next up... 'batch sparging'

Nice vids Gurgeh, just a question - Have you ever had any problems with oxidisation? Seeing the way you filled your corni and bottles I would have thought that would be a sure way of introducing O2.

no - no problems
the yeast scavenge the O2 pretty much immediately. there's not a lot of splashing going on.

hey great work Gurgeh,
whether it's right or wrong, it's good to see some one take the time to do something like this
btw nice crown capper, looks like a sturdy one, my flimsy placcy one WILL break on the next batch, I just know.

Exactly what i thought when i looked at the video, i'm so careful not to introduce any o2 when i'm kegging but hey if it works for ya that's good enough for A T

Great videos by the way

With kegging I have previously done the whole fill up with water, purge with co2 and then introduce the beer via the out-post thing... with dried yeasts i can see that that would be worth doing, but as Stonechat will probably agree, this crouch vale yeast is a fierce beast and i havn't noticed any oxidation problems....
HOWEVER...
The point of this video was not to show off but to see what i can do to improve (plus give some noobs some pointers i hope), so i will revert to the above routine and see if that makes a difference.
okay... time to edit the next vid

Totally agree with Gurgeh about the viability and hard working nature of this yeast.
Where I would differ is that I do the skimming after just 2 or 3 days, as it's done most of its work by then. After that into a closed FV, just for the beer to ferment by another couple of degrees and for the yeast in suspension to drop to the bottom.

it's interesting seeing the different stages of the krausen with this yeast. you'll see what i mean after the next two videos, but i'm just popping out with the camera now to show you what stonechat usually harvests...

Excellent videos Gurgeh. Thought the mash one very instructive. Is this the first time anyone has done this on JBKHF?

Smashing set up Gurgeh, reminds me of a micro-brewery where I used to help out, but on a smaller scale. My brewing is confined to kitchen/bathroom during the week when swmbo is out at work. Keep up the good work.
