The mash is on for my first ever cascade beer, which is maintaining my single hop learning curve beers 8)

Easter cascade 18L

3.4kg pale malt
200grms wheat malt

cascade 7%AA 30grms 90 mins

cascade 10grms @ 0 mins

Irish moss and yeast vit at 10 mins

Yeast from the local micro???
mashing @ 66C
Target OG 1,047ish
IBU's 30 working on 25% utilisation

I have a question which is, I enjoy the late addition hop flavours and I was wondering if 10grms will be enough?

Oh and the wife is helping with todays brew as the tendons in my hand are still not A1  trying to work out if that is a good thing or a bad thing  Then again she does quaff a fair bit of my beers so its only about time I suppose.

You could always use the Townes IPA recipe from Marc Ollosons Book.
Garth posted it for me when I did my first AG and very nice it is too!

Have a good one, P. I used 5g of late goldings in todays brew, and 10g in the last one (which was fine). I suppose it's a matter of taste.

Cheers Chris I should of of mentioned the mash was on

Though I can see that Townes will be added to my list of todo beers. I am aiming for a pale ale to get what the hop gives to a normalish strength beer. without the confusion of a higher ABV or long grist list to mask the flavour. And not needing to let it condition for 3 months always helps(which in itself alows other flavours to develop :=P )

Sorry you did say the mash was on, I didn't spot it!

You could probably get away with some more late hops as the Townes I did was good to drink after 3 weeks and got better, although it was only 5ltr brew so didn't last that long!

Boils on.
This has also swayed me that I NEED to upgrade :=P

I'll be of to the hardware stores tomorrow to price up a 50L Ali stockpot and ballcock taps and a new gas burner, and not forgeting a larger coolbox and copper pip for the MT.

Looks good P2! I like Cascade, i'd use more late hops but I like hoppy beer :=P

Cascade is not everyone's 'cup of tea' though so use your own discretion!

I find that cascade sit well with bramling cross but then I'm just a sucker for soft floral tasting hops

Good luck P2. Out of interest I'm doing Townes tomorrow, but I'm adding a small amount of Crystal 60L because last time I brewed it, it reminded me of piss :D
