Well just finished my first all-grain and worked out well. I batch sparged and sparge 2 got stuck, but stirred and recirculated etc and worked out fine. Started at 9am and finished at about 4pm. Got a loan of a coolbox mash tun off AT for my first effort. The batch sparging took a bit longer than I thought it would . I ended up at 1048 which was spot on so very happy there. I ended up with 26 litres of wort for boil as predicted using Daab's batch sparge calculator, cheers Daab. The Special Bitter Recipe is from Pale Ale book by Terry Foster. Will hopefully add some pics later.
Bulls Eye Bitter (19L) 34 IBU
3.97 KG British 2 row pale malt
227g crystal 120L
23 g Target (11.1 alpha) @ 60min
14 g Saaz at end of boil - aroma hop

Well done kitoog, looks like it went well. Did you end up with 19L in the FV? nice efficiency for your first AG

I ended up with nearly 20L in the FV. Have to calculate my eficiency now, is there a quick way of doing this?

I'd be interested to hear how you like this brew. I've had Mr. Foster's book for some time, but have yet to use any of his recipes. They all look a little light on the Crystal, but I'm tempted just to trust him.

Looks like a nice brew day.
Terry Foster has some interesting recipes in that book. Interesting book for that matter. There are a few I want to try but am enjoying Wheelers recipes too much to look elsewhere right now.

I am envious, I am chomping at the bit to get brewing but I keep procrastinating on buying the equipment as I don't want to buy the wrong stuff. I would be interested to know how the brew tastes in 4 or 5 weeks.

MightyMouth - Sounds like me. I sat on the idea for ages before finally taking the plunge. As the advert says - Just do it (TM)
kitoog - Looks like an excellent day, the benefits are yours for the drinking in a few weeks.

Ye AT gave myself and another local brewer bungo an AG masterclass. I cannot remember everything as we were enjoying his homebrew too much

but he made AG brewing look easy.

Yea we had a great day, not so sure it was a masterclass, more like a crash course

and don't let him fool ye, the both of them were well able to drink with AT all day and brought a couple of crates of their own brews and of course i obliged. Glad you had a good first brew day, it feels very rewarding when you finish, doesn't it? i still get that

Can't wait to taste your first ag brew

Now to get to work on Bungo
