Townes IPA

Yesterday I knocked a batch of this ale out under the careful supervision of Wez 8)
Another Ollosson cracker..cheers Marc

Townes IPA

Target OG 1045
Target FG 1010
ABV 4.5%
IBU 40
60 ltr brew length

In the tun

11.58kg Maris Otter
0.61kg Wheat Malt
13.17g CaCl
10.3g CaSO4
1.4g MgSO4

Mash at 65 deg c for 90 minutes
Based on 75% efficiency

In the copper

90 minute boil

192g Cascade 5%
12g CaCl
10g CaSO4
1g MgSO4
1 x whirlfloc (last 10 min)

80 deg c 100g Cascade aroma hops (15 mins)

Pretty uneventful day which went quite smoothly.
There was an issue with one of my PT100 sensors which meant I mashed at 67 falling to 65 over the 90 mins so this IPA will probably have more body than intended which isn't a bad thing...I'll struggle on

I did drop the return manifold into the mash when running off batch 1

We collected about over 60 ltr at 1048 so my efficiency has gone up again, now standing at 80% with batch sparging.

Yeast was 36g of US-05. This'll be the first time I've used this yeast and I pitched it dry for a change.
It was bubbling within 5 hours and today, 24 hours on, there's a bubble every 3 seconds and it's getting faster all the time.

Vossy, it's great brew with all those Cascade, haven't you done this before, I seem to remember...

Townes IPA is a great brew V, looking forward to the pix.

I used US-05 in my Sunshine brew, it's been in the fv for 11 days and still looks like pea soup

I also used it in Townes IPA and when it does clear produces a clean and crisp beer 8)

Had a great day 8) Learnt lots, It was like "Daniel-Son" and "Mr Miyagi" just without the age difference.

Vossy has a great set up, he was meticulous with his attention to detail throughout the brew day, and was great at explaining to me how everything works on his system.

Unfortunately I only got a couple of pics  the camera sort of got forgotten about as the bottles got opened, one pic I wish i'd got was a pic of the runnings being ran back into the tun through the HERMS system, clear as crystal 8)

Anyway these are the pics I did get:

Moved this ale onto the kitchen table tonight...not easy...60 ltr fv from the ground

The US-05 has certainly done it's job and the ales FG is 1004 and it's still glugging  8) ...albeit very slowly.
I make that 74.2% attenuation, so pretty much spot on.
If I had a fridge for the fv to sit in, I'd crash chill it to stop the yeast...but I don't
Tomorrow I'll fine it, as it's cloudy as anything. Not too much diacetyl at the mo but maybe I should keep it in there just to balance the dryness :-k
Smelling fab and tasting great too...even with all the yeast.
