hi

just finished brewing what is one of my favourites. basic recipie was

length 43l
79% efficiency
og 1045 bitterness 40

7.35kg marris otter
0.26kg wheat malt
66g nothern brewer FWH
54g cascades 15min

mash 67c 60mins

heres some photos

new HLT :) , mash tun and kettle in foreground

Image

underneath plate chiller, totton pump on right transfers wort from kettle through chiller, pump in middle (one forum member will recognise this :) ) used to to recirculate stereliser and cleaner through chiller.

Image

new hlt and pid controller, this worked well filled last night set and was spot on this morning for the mash. this doesn't make better beer but does make life easier, my old hlt had to be recharged twice. fewer things to do. sight glass works very well, 1mm=0.2l so easy maths.

filling mash tun (which was pre heated) you can see copper slotted manifold.

ss conical fermentor. this is a bespoked piece of kit manufactured by a local micro brewery as part of a pilot brewery for recipie development. it was surplus and i was lucky enough to acquire it. it is 50l and has a an external sealed ss cooling jacket. i heat it with a brew belt and cool with a chiller by recirculation through the jacket and control with a pid and thermocouple . it can be pressurised. generally as it is in a cool garage in scotland i heat during the fermentation but once complete crash cool to (40f) for a couple of weeks draw off trub and yeast and apply 5 to 10 psi of co2 before transferring to a 38l corni.

fv filled and being areated.

fv sealed with vent tube in place.

yeast starter, this space is also used for a smaller 25l fermentor I use for stronger beers for bottling.

thats probably more than enough pics, apologies if too many
