My first brew of the year

Post by Dougie » Sun May 25, 2008 7:02 pm

Have just got my first brew of the year on the go today. As I hadn't had chance to order any ingredients for it I have just thrown one together using some of what I had in.

4.8Kg Pale Malt
500g Flaked Barley
100g Chocolate Malt
200g Wheat Malt

90 minute mash, at 66 degrees.

80g Goldings for 90mins
20g Halletau Hersbrucker for last 15mins

OG of 1049 after topping up to 26ltr in FV

Just hoping it turns out ok now, but hope to get another on the go in the next few weeks. I have just purchased a modified oak whiskey keg from speyside cooperage, so I want to have a go at maturing a beer in it.

It's not good I know, but I have spent quite a lot of time working away and the wife doesn't like me spending 6ish hours brewing on our weekends together. :(
Still, I have a couple of weeks off early June so should get another going then. I am also introducing brewing to a mate who recently helped me finish off a lager I made late last year. It seems he's got the taste for it and has just bought himself some second hand kegs. I've said he can use the rest of my brewing equipment.
