The wife took the kids to the zoo today so I fired up the boiler to make 23l of this very simple brew;

4kg Maris Otter
1kg Wheat Malt
80g Styrian Goldings 90min
20g Styrian Goldings 15min

Yeast: Nottingham
Musical Accompaniment: Thin Lizzy Live & Dangerous

All went well until the boil. I use a Bruheat boiler but it started cutting out on my previous brew so I removed the safety cut-out thing. Is seems as if this wasn't the problem as it started doing the same this time around. :?

Must be the thermostat so I decided to bypass it by using an old monitor power cable. Worked great until that cut out after about 6 mins. After a bit of head scratching realised it must be the fuse - the cable is rated to 10amps but, it only had a 5amp fuse fitted. So I put in a 13amp fuse and away it went again.

The wife had the camera at the zoo so I was only able to take a few pics after she returned, by which time I was filling the FV;

Looks good. I went for a more straightforward recipe today too. Keep it simple, like me. :roll:

This is the first time I've used Nottingam yeast. Took a little bit longer to get going than S-04 (I was a bit concerned that there wasn't much going on before I turned in for the night) but, it's nicely under way now.

S-04 has been getting done for me in about 4 days lately. What sort of timescale should I expect with Nottingham? I understand it will probably drop the gravity a bit lower than S-04 - I'm hoping for a nice dry crisp golden ale.
