hmmm.

Bang goes the session beer.

It was 1037 into the boiler :?

Methinks I needs to invest in some decent scales

I dunno - I've had some good sessions on strong beer before... - my Townes was supposed to be a summer quaffer at 4.something% but it's come out at 5.3%... (thanks to the yeast not the grain though!)

Ended up with around 29 litres @ 1036. I had enough spare Liquor to top up to the intended gravity. Phew!

wrapping the H&G hop strainer in SS mesh seemed to work as well. Must make something more permanent.

Anyhew S-04 pitched from a rehydrated starter, FV in the reliable cupboard under the stairs.

SWMBO is gonna have a fit in the morning when she sees big bertha (60L FV) in there instead of the 30L jobbeh.

I have celebrated by taking a sample from 'The Wiggly One' brewed a couple of weeks back. Mmmmmm challenger, still a wee bit cloudy but it's cold so I have high hopes the US-05 will clear up.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Oh, and I only pitched to sachet of S-04, is that going to be enough?

DaaB wrote:One sachet of SO4 is plenty for 25L right the way up to 1046. You don't really want to over pitch otherwise you wont get the yeast flavours produced during the growth cycle, you don't have to be too exact though and it wont hurt of you do over pitch.
Thanks again DaaB :)

The yeast head that was there yesterday is all but gone after 36 hours. Has been sat at a constant 22c in the dark.

Rehydrating really seems to give S-04 a kick up the arse. Not to much trub, so looking good.

I'll get round to taking a gravity reading later.

SO4 will do that with low gravity beers, pitch sufficient, at a fairly warm temperature and It races off chewing sugar as fast as it can.
