Brewday 24/06/08

How does this look? Basically my house ale, lowish gravity ale with plenty of Styrians. Proper, bona-fide Styrians as well, none of this Bobek nonsense . Getting a bit sick of lager...

Hoping to get a check valve ordered and get this one hooked up to the beer engine... which has been an ornament for the last 6 months :=P

A fine brew if ever I saw one Mysterio 8) I've just got a kilo of proper Styrians in, so will be doing some sort of stunner soon.

Hope it goes well.

Cheers, went pretty well, but the run off was pretty slow because of the pellets. Took about an hour. But a smooth day by my standards. I'll put some piccies up in my brew log thing soon :D

I thought the term 'Styrians' was a collective for a number of different varieties.
Same for super styrians, the most common of which is Aurora or summat?

Anyways...

Just drawing off a few samples of this tonight. Really tasty, quaffable beer, although my stainless tea-infuser balls haven't arrived from ebay yet for dry-hopping.

The yeast gives it an unmistakable Fullers taste. I also gave this beer a good dose of gypsum and CaCl, to the tune of 400ppm:200ppm sulphate:chloride. To my tastes, this has really sharpened up the flavour of the beer. When I don't mess with the water my beers tend to taste the same, a sort of soft, malty, sweet taste. This really tastes like something you get in the south east.

Magic.

Love that Fuller's yeast, it's unmistakable. Well tuned up with the water treatments by the sound of it.

:flip: maybe I should send it back.

Flying by the seat of my pants TBH, just using BreWater to estimate the salt additions... seems to be working fine so far.
